Wood Identification
It’s not unusual for woodturners to acquire various pieces of wood that are unidentified with a desire to know what the species is. Using a teaching style that makes learning fun, Rob introduces you to the specific characteristics of wood samples. These characteristics are subjected to an organized, logical set of questions using an identification key that narrows the possibilities to the name of the wood sample. Both beginning and advanced turners will benefit from understanding the basics of wood structures, cell arrangements, and a few key terms to describe them. The process of wood identification can be completed by any interested person with the ability to make some basic observations of a wood sample.
